' JAN 26 1993 <br />BOOK 88 PAGE 662!8 -7 <br />PROCLAMATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br />Presentation of a Retirement Plaque by Chairman Bird to Albert <br />Van Auken was preceded by the following words of recognition: <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />ALBERT VAN AUKEN <br />Albert Van Auken announces his retirement from Indian River <br />County Board of County Commissioners effective January 28, 1993. <br />Albert Van Auken, originally from Pennsylvania, has been a resident <br />of Indian River County since 1961. He was previously employed with <br />Piper Aircraft as a Mechanic. <br />Albert Van Auken was hired on January 15, 1963 with the Road & <br />Bridge Division. He was a Foreman until his position was <br />reclassified to Assistant Superintendent effective August 16, 1979 <br />and he became Superintendent in February 26, 1981. <br />Albert Van Auken has seen many changes within Indian River County <br />in his 30 years of service. <br />Albert Van Auken has demonstrated positive leadership in his tenure <br />with the County. A list of Mr. Van Auken's achievements include <br />construction supervision of over 90 local road petition paving <br />projects, the County Fairgrounds, numerous County parks, many <br />County bridges, intersections and sidewalks. He has several <br />letters of commendation expressing appreciation for jobs well done. <br />He is regarded as an excellent Superintendent by his supervisor, <br />Jim Davis, P.E., and is well liked by his staff and other county <br />employees. Mr. Van Auken will be missed by his fellow employees. <br />He has unselfishly assisted them over the years with work related <br />and personal needs. <br />The Board of County Commissioners wishes to express their <br />appreciation for the outstanding performance Albert Van Auken has <br />contributed on behalf of Indian River County. The County <br />Commissioners wish him the very best in his future endeavors. <br />Albert Van Auken emotionally thanked the BCC, Administrator <br />Chandler, department heads, and everyone with whom he worked over <br />the years, but especially Public Works Director Jim Davis. <br />Director Jim Davis conveyed that it was a very emotional day <br />for him also. He felt that Albert Van Auken has been a tremendous <br />asset to Public Works and cherished their friendship as well as <br />their working relationship over the past 13 years. He felt that <br />all of the employees who knew him will miss him very much. <br />F <br />
