Proclamation Designating the Week of April 24-30, 1993 as <br />National Preschool Immunization Week in Indian River Count <br />Florida <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING APRIL 24-30, 1993 AS <br />NATIONAL PRESCHOOL IMMUNIZATION WEER <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, early immunizations for preventable diseases, such <br />as measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diptheria and tetanus are <br />necessary to maintain our children's health and well-being; and <br />WHEREAS, nearly 95 percent of America's four million <br />children are fully immunized by the time they enter school; one <br />third of our preschoolers fail to get the proper immunizations, <br />and in the inner cities, the immunization rate is as low as 40 to <br />50 percent; and. <br />WHEREAS, the Children's Aption Network and a coalition of <br />business, health, government and community organizations, <br />including the Office of the Surgeon General and the Centers for <br />Disease Control and Prevention, have joined together to launch <br />the National Immunization Campaign; and <br />WHERMS, the National Immunization Campaign is a nationwide <br />public awareness and grass roots organizing campaign to educate <br />the families in America about immunization and to help address <br />the nation's long-term immunization and overall child health <br />needs; and <br />WHEREAS, during the week of April 24-30, 1993, the National <br />Immunization Campaign is undertaking an intensive effort to <br />vaccinate children at risk for preventable childhood diseases by <br />expanding clinic hours, increasing the number of immunization <br />screenings at hospitals and clinics, distributing educational <br />materials, and providing access to local hotlines; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River is one of the counties in the country <br />where a coalition of health and social service providers, <br />advocacy, business, civic and religious organizations have joined <br />with the National Immunization Campaign to offer families <br />expanded access to immunization services: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of <br />April 24-30, 1993 be designated as <br />NATIONAL PRESCHOOL IMMUNIZATION WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and the Board calls upon all residents of <br />this great county to join with us in supporting the goals and <br />activities of the National Immunization Campaign to ensure that <br />our children are fully immunized. <br />Adopted this 6th day of April, 1993. <br />16 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Richard N.
