RisonP <br />Senior Planner, Long -W a Planning <br />DATE: May 14, 1993 <br />SUBJECT: Adoption of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee <br />Final Report <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal <br />consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at its regular <br />meeting of May 25, 1993 <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />In February, 1990, the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners adopted the Indian River County Comprehensive Plan. <br />The Housing Element of the Comprehensive Plan includes various <br />goals, objectives and policies which address the housing needs of <br />Indian River County. One of those policies, Housing Element Policy <br />1.3, states: <br />"An advisory committee shall be appointed by the Board of <br />County Commissioners to provide additional guidance on <br />county housing policies. Comprised of representatives of <br />the housing industry, financial institutions, Housing <br />Authority and citizens, the committee shall be advisory <br />and terminated upon acceptance of its final report. This <br />committee shall submit a final report to the Board of <br />County Commissioners by 1993 containing the following: <br />1. Recommend strategies for housing and neighborhood <br />conservation alternatives and feasibility; <br />2. Public/private joint sponsorship of activities and <br />funding programs; <br />3. Approaches to reduce housing costs and upgrade <br />neighborhoods; <br />4. Policies concerning the formation of non-profit <br />housing sponsors; and <br />5. Principles and criteria to guide residential <br />density planning, special housing facility <br />locations, and effective means of integrating <br />housing planning with general community planning." <br />95 <br />��� BOOK PAGE 696 <br />
