Bird, Chair -man <br />Board of County Commissioners <br />Indian River County <br />1840 25th Street <br />Vero Beach, FL 32960 <br />Re: Alternative Education Classroom Facilities <br />Dear Chairman Bird: <br />As part of our continuing effort to provide alternative educational <br />resources and facilities for young people who are experiencing <br />difficulty in the mainstream. school population, the School District <br />of Indian River County has developed a cooperative agreement with <br />the Juvenile Services Program, a private, not-for-profit community <br />based agency, to provide an alternative education program serving <br />30 to 40 at -risk students at the Sheriffs Department Complex. The <br />School District would provide teaching staff. teaching supplies and <br />materials, a small computer lab, and portable classrooms. JSP <br />would provide on-site program administration. supervision and <br />counseling. <br />A site has been chosen at the Sheriff s Department Administrative <br />Complex, which will work well for this program, and approval is <br />hereby requested from the Board of County Commissioners to <br />locate three 24" X 36" portable classrooms on the above premises. <br />Utility hookups will be accomplished by the School District with <br />water and sewer being tied -in to the SheriWs Department Complex <br />system and electrical power hookup and service being paid for by <br />the School District. <br />Application for a Temporary Use Permit is being made and Risk <br />Management Representatives from both the County and the School <br />District have agreed to execute a mutual hold harmless agreement. <br />Please call my office if there are questions.
