ASHER <br />AND STAFFED ASSISTANT DIRE OF <br />BY: UTILITY SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT OF UTILITY SERVICES GEOGRAPHICAL <br />INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT <br />SYSTEM <br />BACKGROUND: <br />As the Department of Utility Services (Department) addressed the <br />expanding customer base, increased regulations, and accomplishing <br />more with fewer resources, integrating the mapping and facilities <br />records systems has become a necessity. <br />In January 1992, the Board of County Commissioners authorized the <br />Department to purchase the base computer hardware, operating <br />system, and Arc -Info mapping software to enable the Department to <br />computerize its maps and integrate its system with the Property <br />Appraiser's base maps. The Arc -Info software system is the <br />software platform used by the Department of Environmental <br />Protection and St. Johns River Water Management District with <br />which the County agencies will need to interface. The system is <br />installed and networked with the Property Appraiser's office for <br />utilization of the base maps with parcel and parcel data. The <br />Property Appraiser's base maps are substantially complete and are <br />available for integration by the Department with its utility <br />facilities. <br />ANALYSIS: <br />During the 1992-93 fiscal year, the Department has begun the <br />following tasks to set up the base system: <br />* Convert its existing AutoCAD facilities' maps into the <br />geographical information system <br />16 <br />'-7 <br />
