SAN 4 1994 <br />BOOK 91 PAGE -398 <br />Phase I - Study and report on the existing physical conditions <br />of the existing air handling units and an analysis of the <br />ability of these.systems to maintain suitable conditions in the <br />building. Provide information as to maximum capability of units <br />vs.recommended guidelines and protocol of recognized standards. <br />Phase II - Recommendations and schematics to provide design and <br />cost estimates to perform renovations to the existing air <br />handling systems. <br />Phase III - Provide plans, details, and specifications to allow <br />the County to bid the remedial work. <br />Phase IV - Construction Administration to review shop drawings <br />and observe construction progress and completion. <br />The specifications call for Phases I and II to be completed and <br />authorization.be provided -for prior to proceedinq:on with Phases III <br />and.IV. <br />Staff has negotiated a contract with -Gee and Jenson to complete the <br />first two phases based on their actual expenses, employee time and <br />,material at a _ fixed. sate. ; They provided. a. not to exceed price of <br />RECOMMENDATIONS• <br />It is recommended that the Board approve an amendment to Gee and <br />Jenson's contract at a cost not to exceed $10,750.00 and authorize <br />their chairman to execute the applicable documents. <br />Commissioner Adams agreed <br />building's entire air handling <br />that we should include the <br />system in the study. She asked <br />whether we have any idea how much Phases 3 and 4 will cost. <br />Director Dean explained that we cannot make that determination <br />until the consultants complete their study. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, to approve an amendment to the <br />County's contract with Gee and Jensen to provide <br />consultant services at a cost not to exceed $10,750, <br />as set forth in staff's memorandum. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Eggert commented that a charge <br />of $55 per hour for typing services seems excessive. <br />Commissioner Macht pointed out that the company included <br />overhead and administrative expenses in that figure. <br />Commissioner Adams asked whether the ductwork in the Utilities <br />Department and the conference room is leaking, because a number of <br />ceiling tiles in the Utilities Department and the conference room <br />were replaced about a month ago, and the new ones are discolored <br />already. <br />Director Dean explained that staff is recommending that we <br />delay making any additional repairs until the consultant's study is <br />completed. <br />26 <br />
