Larry McClusky, having been duly sworn, spoke in favor of the <br />retreat because he has been helped by Sandy and Richard Coffey. He <br />described this retreat as an opportunity for a life change. He <br />assured the Board that they will not do any harm to the groves. <br />Pastor Jefferson, St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, <br />having been duly sworn, spoke in support of the retreat and stated <br />that his membership is behind it. He urged the Board to allow the <br />retreat because it will do the community a great service. <br />James Barstow, manager of Grace Brothers Okeechobee Mission, <br />having been duly sworn, spoke in favor of the retreat because there <br />are many people hurting spiritually who need a place like this to <br />change their lives from the inside. <br />Reverend John Ferver, having been duly sworn, spoke in favor <br />of Sandy Coffey and her ministry. He stated that he was an <br />alcoholic, his father was an alcoholic, and he knew how important <br />it is to have this retreat in the community. <br />June Fritz, resident of Indian River Estates and participant <br />in the Sowing Seeds Ministry, having been duly sworn, stated that <br />her neighbors grow vegetables and fruits. They are not bothered by <br />the spraying; their main problem is with the blossoms. <br />Jack Harris, representing the pastor of Faith United <br />Fellowship, having been duly sworn, realized that the citrus people <br />are Christians and should not be fighting this project. <br />Brenda Young, having been duly sworn, has a son in the Harvest <br />House program. She described the change in her son as a miracle. <br />R. Harold Lee, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of <br />Sebastian, having been duly sworn, has directed people to retreats <br />in Okeechobee, Fort Lauderdale and Titusville, and would welcome a <br />retreat in this area. He predicted that the citrus folks and <br />retreat folks will help each other. <br />James McClain, having been duly sworn, stated that he was <br />released from prison 3 weeks ago. He backs the Harvest House <br />because the men are worth it, and women, too. <br />Attorney Michael O'Haire, representing the applicants, having <br />been duly sworn, believed this project presents an opportunity for <br />the people involved in agriculture. There are no restrictions on <br />what a property owner can grow, but Sandy Coffey will agree to a <br />condition that she will not allow any host plants to be planted on <br />the subject property. No trespassing signs will be posted along <br />the perimeter of the property as a condition of approval. There <br />are people involved in activities other than citrus in that area <br />and none of them complain that their health is affected by the <br />groves.
