Proclamation - June 5-11, 1994 as "Safe Boatincc Week" <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />DESIGNATING JUNE 5 - 11, 1994 <br />AS "SAFE BOATING WEER" IN <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHER$AS, water -related recreational activities are vital <br />.elements in the lives of Florida's citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the state's 8,426 miles of saltwater tidal <br />coastline, over 3 million acres of, inland lakes and 1,700 miles <br />.of rivers and streams provide for..many of the needed outlets for <br />,.recreation and relaxation; and <br />WHEREAS, recreational boating is one of Florida's leading <br />outdoor activities with more than 4 million residents <br />participating in -this pastime; and <br />ting <br />state in the,nationFlorida <br />with overfastest <br />715,000gregistered vessels; and <br />WHEREAS, every year lives are lost in boating accidents due <br />to alcohol in spite of the educational efforts of the U.S. Coast <br />Guard, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the U.S. Power Squadrons, <br />the Florida':Marine'•Patrol, the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish <br />Commission and local agencies; and <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Marine Patrol, the Florida Game and <br />Fresh Water Fish Commission, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Coast <br />Guard Auxiliary, the U.S. Power Squadrons and other cooperating <br />agencies and groups have developed and are now executing <br />campaigns in this field; and <br />WHEREAS, the sponsors of these safety programs have <br />addressed their efforts to the youth and general public of <br />Florida, urging them to enhance boating pleasure and avoid <br />possible loss of life and property damage: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />CONMIISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of <br />June 5 - 11, 1994 be designated as <br />SAFE BOATING WEER <br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all citizens to join <br />in learning and•practicing safe boating through boating education <br />courses and in operating their vessel responsibly by not drinking <br />and driving. <br />Adopted this 24th day of May, 1994. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY CONMSSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />4 (--' - 4faa 41.14 1�!, <br />John W.
