Shock absorbing lanyards can be obtained in 3' lengths, which would shorten, total fall distance to 60". <br />The next best course of action would be for the employee in our scenario to select a higher anchor point <br />if possible, or select something called a "Self Retracting Lanyard." This type of lanyard is a spring loaded <br />wire cable mechanism that is designed somewhat like a car seat belt. Once a fall occurs and the spool <br />speed exceeds a preset RPM, a tripping mechanism engages the cable lock, stopping the progress of the <br />fall. This is often a much more desirable option -that has come into favor and become more affordable <br />over the last decade. <br />
