BOOK 93 PAA 4 <br />addition, Commissioner Bird believed it was important to get a <br />professional opinion on the value of the building. <br />Administrator Chandler advised that an appraisal was done <br />several years ago and Commissioner Bird suggested the appraiser be <br />asked what the charge would be for an update. - <br />Commissioner Macht inquired about the estimated cost for <br />demolition, and Director Dean explained that the figure was based <br />on per -cubic -foot costs, disposal fees, and other costs. <br />Discussion was held regarding the feasibility of retaining the <br />original structure and removing the additions. <br />MOTION WAS MADE BY Commissioner Adams, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Macht to allow the <br />Historical Society six weeks to continue the <br />National Register of Historic Places <br />application, authorize the Chairman to execute <br />the application as owner of the building, and <br />proceed with having the appraisal updated. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Eggert wished to know about the <br />the original (center) building if the wings were demolished. <br />Clerk of the Circuit Court Jeff Barton clarified that the <br />brick exterior of the original building had been covered with <br />plaster, and doorways to the north and south on the first and <br />second floors had been created. <br />Commissioner Adams suggested a report from a structural <br />engineer, and Commissioner Eggert wanted an estimate to remove just <br />the wings and leave the original building. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. It was <br />voted on and carried unanimously. <br />Administrator Chandler announced that staff would obtain <br />separate estimates for demolition of the entire building and for <br />the additions only. <br />Commissioner Bird discussed the use of the Courthouse Annex by <br />the Utilities Department and wondered if there would be sufficient <br />space for parking and a drive-through facility. <br />Administrator Chandler confirmed that staff was refining the <br />details of the Annex versus the Old Health Department building for <br />the Utilities Department.
