DRUM <br />AND STAFFED ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST <br />BY: DEPARTMENT OF UTILITY SERVICER <br />SUBJECT: WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT <br />TROPIC COLONY SUBDIVISION, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />BID NO..4007, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY PROJECT NO. <br />UW -94 -18 -DS, WORK AUTHORIZATION NO. 26 <br />BACKGROUND <br />On September 21, 1993, the Board of County Commissioners approved <br />the award -of the labor contract bid to Driveways, Inc., Bid No. <br />4007. (See Attached Minutes.) The Department of Utility Services <br />proposed to use this labor contract to replace the distribution <br />System within the subject area. This is in: response to the <br />continuing problems of rusting,- leaking and low pressure with the <br />existing galvanized water lines. <br />Surveying has been completed. The above subject is designed for <br />construction. This project is comprised of the replacement of <br />existing 2 -inch galvanized water mains with approximately <br />14,800 linear feet of 2 -inch PVC water main and fittings, 2 linear <br />feet of service tubing, 1,680 linear feet of jack and bore, and <br />replacement of 132 meters and meter boles. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The cost of the labor to construct the 2 -inch PVC water main under <br />the labor contract is $146,358.60 (See Attached Work Authorization <br />No. 26 with Driveways, Inc.) The pipe, valves, and fittings will <br />be supplied by- the County at a cost of $32,000. In-house <br />engineering, inspection, and administrative costs are estimated to <br />be $19,850. <br />The construction of these replacement water lines is a part of a <br />continuing effort by the Department to replace galvanized water <br />lines in Indian River County. Funding for this project will be <br />from renewal and replacement funds. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The staff of the Department of Utility services recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners approve the execution of the attached <br />agreement, which approves Work Authorization No. 26, with <br />Driveways, Inc., to construct .the water line replacement in the <br />amount of $1460,358.60 to replace an estimated total of 14,800 <br />linear feet -of water main and authorizes expenditure of $51, 850 for <br />'fnaterials "and in-house support, for a total project cost of <br />$1981,208.60. - - - <br />88 <br />October 25, 1994 <br />
