Board of County Commissioners Meeting Minutes - Final July 3, 2018 <br />Beautification Project Phase II, (IRC -1748) <br />Recommended Action: Staff recommends the Board of County Commissioners reject the single bid from <br />Johnson -Davis, Inc., and authorize staff to re -advertise the Project as soon as <br />possible. <br />Attachments: Staff Report <br />Johnson -Davis. Inc. response to clarifications <br />Chairman O'Bryan stated that an element of the Gifford Neighborhood 45th Street <br />Beautification Project Phase II (the Project) would include culverting a segment of <br />the canal lateral to 45th Street. He .explained that the pipe needed for the Project. <br />was in short, supply; the sole bid. came in almost $900,000 above the engineer's <br />estimate, and that staff was therefore recommending that the Project be re -bid. He <br />affirmed the County's commitment to undertake the Project when costs decrease. <br />Joe Idlette,_4570 57th Avenue, expressed:his disappointment and hope that the <br />Project would move forward. <br />Freddie Woolfork, 4590 57th Avenue, sought. information on the bid process. <br />Chairman O'Bryan, assisted by County Purchasing Manager:Jennifer Hyde, <br />elaborated on the County's purchasing process. <br />A brief discussion ensued, with input from Public Works Director Rich Szpyrka, <br />about the .type of pipe that is specifically required for the Project. <br />County Administrator Jason Brown stressed that this is only a delay, and that the <br />Project will be constructed. <br />A motion was made by Vice Chairman Solari, seconded by Commissioner Zorc, to <br />approve staffs recommendation.
