SECTION 01541 <br /> PROTECTION OF THE WORK AND PROPERTY <br /> 1.3 TREE AND PLANT PROTECTION <br /> A. Protect existing trees, shrubs and plants on or adjacent to the site that are shown or <br /> designated to remain in place against unnecessary cutting, breaking or skinning of <br /> trunk, branches, bark or roots. <br /> B. Do not store or park materials or equipment within the drip line of trees that are to <br /> remain. <br /> C. Install temporary fences or barricades to protect trees and plants in areas subject to <br /> traffic. <br /> D. Fires shall not be permitted under or adjacent to trees and plants. <br /> E. Within the limits of the Work, water trees and plants that are to remain, in order to <br /> maintain their health during construction operations. <br /> F. Cover all exposed roots with burlap and keep it continuously wet. Cover all <br /> exposed roots with earth as soon as possible. Protect root systems from <br /> mechanical damage and damage by erosion, flooding, run-off or noxious materials <br /> in solution. <br /> G. If branches or trunks are damaged, prune branches immediately and protect the cut <br /> or damaged areas with emulsified asphalt compounded specifically for horticultural <br /> use. <br /> H. Remove all damaged trees and plants that die or suffer permanent injury and <br /> replace them with a specimen of equal or better quality. <br /> I. Coordinate Work in this Section with requirements of other sections herein. <br /> 1.4 PROTECTION OF IRRIGATION <br /> The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for maintaining in good condition all <br /> irrigation systems within the easements, which could be damaged by construction <br /> activities. The CONTRACTOR shall repair any irrigation systems damaged by <br /> construction activities within two (2) days. Irrigation systems partially within the <br /> right-of-way of 58th Avenue and all intersecting side streets within project limits may <br /> be cut off and capped or connected to same system to maintain functionality.
