SECTION 01541 <br /> PROTECTION OF THE WORK AND PROPERTY <br /> 1.5 PROTECTION OF EXISTING STRUCTURES <br /> A. Underground Structures: <br /> 1. Underground structures are defined to include, but not be limited to, all sewer, <br /> water, gas, and other piping, and manholes, chambers, electrical conduits, <br /> tunnels and other existingsubsurface work located within or adjacent to the <br /> 1 <br /> limits of the Work. <br /> 2. All underground structures known to ENGINEER except service connections <br /> for water, sewer, electric, and telephone are shown. This information is shown <br /> for the assistance of CONTRACTOR in accordance with the best information <br /> available, but,is not guaranteed to be correct or complete. The existing utilities <br /> shown on the Contract Drawings are located according to the information <br /> available to the ENGINEER at the time the Drawings were prepared and have <br /> not been independently verified by the OWNER or the ENGINEER. Guarantee <br /> is not made that all existing underground utilities are shown or that the <br /> locations of those shown are accurate. The locations shown are for bidding <br /> purposes only. Finding the actual location of any existing utilities is the <br /> CONTRACTOR's responsibility and shall be done before it commences any <br /> work in the vicinity. Furthermore,the CONTRACTOR shall be fully responsible <br /> for any and all damages, which might be occasioned by the CONTRACTOR's <br /> failure to exactly locate and preserve any and all underground utilities. The <br /> OWNER or ENGINEER will assume no liability for any damages sustained or <br /> costs incurred because of the CONTRACTOR's operations in the vicinity of <br /> existing utilities or structures, nor for temporary bracing and shoring of same. <br /> If it is necessary to shore, brace, or swing a utility, contact the utility company <br /> or department affected and obtain their permission regarding the method to <br /> use for such work. <br /> 3. Contact the various utility companies which may have buried or aerial utilities <br /> within or near the construction area before commencing work. Provide 48 <br /> hours minimum notice to all utility companies prior to beginning construction. <br /> 4. Schedule and execute all work involving existing utilities in order to minimize <br /> necessary interruption of services. Whenever such interruption is necessary <br /> for completion of the work, notify the ENGINEER and the appropriate utility at <br /> least 48 hours in advance. Perform all work to repair/restore utility service to <br /> the satisfaction of the appropriate utility. Include all costs related to service <br /> maintenance, interruption, and restoration in the appropriate line item in the <br /> Contract. <br /> 5. Where it is necessary to temporarily interrupt house or business services, the <br /> CONTRACTOR shall notify the owner or occupant, both before the interruption <br /> (24-hour minimum), and again immediately before service is resumed.
