Proclamation - Epilepsy Prevention and Awareness Month <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF NOVEMER, 1994 <br />AS EPILEPSY PREVENTION AMID AWARENESS MONTS <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, more than five million Americans, including more <br />than 127,000 people in Florida have epilepsy; and <br />WEZREAS,.Indian River County has more than 97,415 people who <br />enjoy bicycling, motorcycling and -sports of all kinds and as we <br />are blessed with great weather and activities that can be enjoyed <br />by all, we welcome visitors to our area; and <br />WHEREAS, epilepsy is a condition that can be caused by <br />trauma to the head, and head injuries can be prevented by wearing <br />seat belts, securing children in a car safety seat and by wearing <br />helmets on bicycles; and <br />WHEREAS, one in seven children suffer head injuries in bike <br />related incidents; and <br />WHEREAS, driving is a privilege that comes with <br />responsibil-ity to exercise care and precaution for passengers; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on our state's highways, there are more than 198 <br />million miles traveled by drivers daily; and <br />WHEREAS, by using our heads and taking steps to prevent head <br />injuries we can prevent some cases of epilepsy; and -- <br />WHEREAS, the' Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, Epilepsy <br />Services of Southeast Florida and Indian River County share in <br />Promoting the prevention of head injuries: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIDW BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMUSSIONERS that the month of November, 1994 be <br />designated as' <br />EPILEPSY PREVENTION AND AWARENESS MONTH <br />in Indian River County, and the Board further urges all. citizens <br />in this county to support the -local Epilepsy services. <br />Adopted this 22 day of November,. 1994. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMIISSIONERS <br />l ,ar,,: •• INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />i <br />o .
