Proclamation - World Aids Day in Indian River County <br />PROCLAMATION. <br />DESIGNATING DECEMBER 1, 1994 AS <br />WORLD AIDS DAY <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, the World Health Organization has designated <br />December 1 of each year as World AIDS Day, a day to expand and <br />strengthen the worldwide effort to stop HIV/AIDS; and <br />WHEREAS, the global spread of HIV infection and AIDS <br />necessitates a worldwide effort to increased communication, <br />education and preventive action to stop the transmission of HIV <br />and the spread of AIDS; -and <br />WHEREAS, World AIDS Day provided the community with Treasure <br />Coast Community AIDS Network (TCCAN), serving Indian River <br />County, the opportunity to focus on HIV infection and AIDS, <br />caring for people of the County of Indian River with HIV/AIDS and <br />learning about HIV/AIDS; and <br />WHEREAS, the World Health Organization now estimates that 17 <br />million people are currently infected with HIV and that -over 4 <br />million have gone on to develop AIDS; and <br />WHEREAS~, the American Association for World Health is <br />encouraging'a better understanding of the challenge of HIV -and <br />the spread of AIDS nationally as it recognizes that the number of <br />people diagnosed with HIV and AIDS in the United States continues <br />to increase with an estimated 1 to 250 Americans currently HIV <br />positive and over 361,164 AIDS cases reported as of December, <br />1994; and . <br />WHEREAS, World AIDS Day 1994, "AIDS and Families" will focus <br />on how many _families are affected by HIV/AIDS, how families can <br />become more effective in both HIV/AIDS prevention and care, and <br />on how families can contribute to global efforts against <br />HIV/AIDS: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE. BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMNaSSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, that December 1, 1994 be <br />designated as <br />WORLD AIDS DAY <br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all citizens to take - <br />part in activities and observances designed to increase the <br />awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS as a global challenge, to <br />take part An HIV/AIDS prevention activities and programs, and to <br />join the global effort to prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS. <br />Adopted this 22 day of November, 1994. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY CONMSSION <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />q' 50hn W.
