method of installation must be able to meet the requirement of completely filling the existing <br />water main and any voids adjacent to it. <br />Backfill to grade above pipe left in place. Place and compact backfill in compliance with the <br />Standard Specifications. <br />Remove, transport, and, dispose of spoils. Spoils including pipe must be hauled to a facility <br />permitted to accept the material. The method must provide for the release of air. When <br />intermediate points are required to be constructed for the abandonment of the system, <br />they must be a part of the abandonment project process. The method must provide for the <br />isolation of water mains to be grouted from water mains that are abandoned in place <br />without grouting as shown on the plans. <br />Water mains that are not under proposed pavement are generally not required to be grouted <br />unless it is specified in the contract documents. Mains to be abandoned must be grouted <br />only if required by the contract documents and payment as per these specifications is <br />provided. <br />5. MEASUREMENT <br />This Item will be measured by the linear foot of water main to be abandoned regardless of <br />depth. <br />6. PAYMENT <br />The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Item and measured as <br />provided under "Measurement" will be paid for at the unit price bid for "Utility Pipe, Plug & <br />Place Out of Service" of the size of water main specified.
