12/22/94(reso\gaming)Vk <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-104 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, ADVOCATING AN <br />AMENDMENT TO THE STATE CONSTITUTION WHICH WOULD <br />PROVIDE LOCAL CONTROL OF GAMING AND GAMBLING <br />ACTIVITIES. <br />WHEREAS, from time to time proposals arise to authorize gaming and <br />gambling activities in the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, if gaming and gambling activities were to be authorized, local <br />governments and their citizens would be significantly impacted; and <br />WHEREAS, -in order to adequately address gaming and gambling activities, <br />if approved in the future, local governments must have the power and <br />authority to regulate such activities with regard to all land use matters, <br />zoning, building and similar codes, hours of operation, and related matters; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the passage of appropriate legislation would provide for <br />adequate local control if gaming or gambling activities are authorized in the <br />State of Florida; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. The Indian River County Legislative Delegation is urged to support <br />passage of the attached joint resolution proposing an amendment to the <br />State Constitution which, upon approval by the voters, would provide for <br />necessary local control of any authorized gaming or gambling activities. <br />2. A copy of this resolution shall be provided to each member of the Indian <br />River County Legislative Delegation, to each city council in Indian <br />River County, to each county commission in the state, to the Florida <br />Association of Counties, and the Florida League of Cities by the Office <br />of the County Attorney and the contents of this resolution shall be <br />otherwise widely distributed to -the public. -- <br />JANUARY 3, 1995 17 boa 17 <br />
