ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, <br />Commissioner Tippin, the Board <br />authorized letter to legislators <br />Resolution 95-13, urging repeal of <br />Voter Registration Act (popularly <br />"Motor -Voter" law). <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95-13 <br />SECONDED by <br />unanimously <br />and adopted <br />the National <br />known as the <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER couNTY, FLORIDA, To THE UNITED STATES <br />CONGRESS, URGING REPEAL OF THE NATIONAL VOTER <br />REGISTRATION ACT (POPULARLY KNOWN AS THE "MOTOR - <br />VOTER" LAW). <br />WHEREAS, because of new federal and state regulations incident to the <br />passage of the National Voter Registration Act, starting January 1, 1995, <br />people can register to vote by mail without having to provide identification <br />and proof of citizenship; <br />WHEREAS, local election officials will not be able to determine if <br />someone is registered elsewhere, if the person is a citizen, or even whether <br />the person skists; <br />WHEREAS, the number of fraudulent signatures on constitutional amendment <br />petitions will increase because there is nothing to stop signature collectors <br />from collecting voter registration forme, registering a fictitious name, and <br />signing the petition.; <br />WHEREAS, in a close election if a candidate claims fraud has been <br />committedo::it will be nearly impossible to prove; and <br />WHEREAS, this law is going to completely change voter registration in <br />the United States and has the potential of affecting election results; <br />37 <br />January 17, 1995 bom 94 <br />
