While suspended, youth will be
provided with the instruction to complete missing school work and the skills to learn how to
prevent future suspension by addressing the root cause of the suspension. At the end of the
day, there will be a service opportunity for participating youth to support our community, as
the community is supporting them in this initiative.
ALTOSS has been proven to be effective in decreasing repeat suspensions by using targeted
activities to increase the student's awareness of the importance of positive character,
relationships, respect, and cooperation. Provided by a licensed mental health professional,
students participate in group sessions to identify the reason behind their suspension and
develop alternative actions for the future in order to reduce the likelihood of a repeat
suspension.
