attitude, attendance, and seniority. No appointed employee shall be forced to accept a <br />promotion. <br />18.04 Each employee covered hereunder shall annually receive a written evaluation assessing his <br />performance of the essential functions of the employee's job. The appraisal form shall be <br />developed by the Employer with input from the Union. <br />18.05 Newly hired Firefighter/Paramedic employees shall serve an initial probationary period of <br />one year. Newly hired employees who do not possess paramedic certification are required to <br />attain the paramedic certification within the initial twenty-four (24) month probationary <br />period and will serve an additional probationary period not to exceed twelve (12) month <br />from the date of receiving paramedic certification. Within this twelve (12) month period, the <br />employee will be required to successfully complete the required tests to obtain Medical <br />Director approval to be released from probationary status. Newly hired probationary <br />employees may be dismissed at any time at the discretion of the County and are not entitled <br />to use the grievance/arbitration procedures relating to their discipline or discharge, and are <br />not entitled to payments of sick leave or vacation leave at time of termination. Newly hired <br />employees who do not possess Paramedic certification shall only receive a cost of living <br />adjustment if any and will NOT receive any available step increases until such time they are <br />certified by the State of Florida as a Paramedic. <br />18.06 Employees who are promoted shall serve a promotion trial period of &k twelve months. If <br />an employee who is serving a trial period incurred as a result of a promotion is found to be <br />unqualified to perform the duties of the higher position, -a good faith effort will be made to <br />return the employee to the position and status held immediately prior to the promotion. If <br />the employee's former position is filled, the employee, may be transferred to a vacant <br />position for which the employee qualifies. If no vacancy exists for which the employee is <br />qualified, the employee will be placed in a lay-off status with recall rights. <br />30 <br />
