Swan <br />Supervisor of Elections <br />Indian River County <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Chairman Solari, Vice -Chairman Adams, Commissioner O'Bryan, Commissioner <br />Flescher, Commissioner Zorc <br />FROM: Leslie Swan, Supervisor of Elections <br />DATE: May 30, 2019 <br />SUBJECT: FSASE 2020 Canvassing Board Workshop <br />For the upcoming 2020 Election Cycle, the county canvassing board shall oversee all elections. The <br />county canvassing board shall be composed of the supervisor of elections; a county court judge, who <br />shall act as chair; and the chair of the board of county commissioners. <br />Enclosed is the registration packet for the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) <br />2020 Canvassing Board Workshop. The Workshop has been scheduled for Friday, October 18, 2019 at <br />the Double Tree by Hilton (Orlando Airport). Check-in opens at 9:00 a.m. and the workshop begins at <br />10:00 a.m. and concludes at approximately 3:30 p.m. <br />Due to the fact that the Canvassing Board Workshop is taking place prior to the selection of the new <br />chairman of the BOCC, I am providing all five county commissioners with this information packet. <br />As a reminder, the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners is ineligible to <br />serve on the County Canvassing Board if any of the following restrictions apply: <br />• The chair is a candidate who has opposition in the election being canvassed <br />• The chair is an active participant in the campaign or candidacy of any <br />candidate who has opposition in the election being canvassed <br />If the chair in unable to serve, the replacement shall be one of the board's members who <br />is not a candidate with opposition in the election being canvassed and who is not an <br />active participant in the campaign or candidacy of any candidate with opposition in the <br />election being canvassed. <br />An alternate canvassing board member must also be appointed. The alternate member <br />shall be appointed by the chair of the board of county commissioners and must follow <br />the same guidelines for all other county canvassing board members. <br />In 2020, there will be three scheduled elections as follows: <br />Presidential Preference Primary — March 17, 2020 <br />Primary Election — August 18, 2020 (pending the Governor's signature - SB7066) <br />General Election- November 3, 2020 <br />4375 43rd Avenue • VeraBeach FL 32967 1 Office. 17721226-3440 1 FAX! _L7.7.21770-S3h.7_a.vnrwsw.ttar.ei:ndi <br />
