Board of County Commissioners Meeting Minutes-Final October 15, 2019 <br /> Attachments: Staff Report <br /> Beth Powell,Assistant Director of Parks and Conservation Resources, appeared <br /> before the Board with an update to the planned improvements at the Jones'Pier <br /> Conservation Area. Ms. Powell's presentation began with a public service <br /> promotional video showcasing the project. She continued with a PowerPoint <br /> presentation which detailed the timeline, funding, site plan and partnering <br /> organizations. Utilizing grants from a variety of sources,the Parks and <br /> Conservation Department created a combination of natural and man-made <br /> improvements including a replica fruit stand, fishing pier, wetlands,public use <br /> facilities, and custom signs mapping the area. Ms. Powell announced the "A <br /> Day on the Trail" event would be held on December 7, 2019,to encourage <br /> public discovery of the area. <br /> Ms. Powell concluded by requesting the Board's authorization to apply for <br /> grants in order to repurpose the 1920's Bungalow/Main House as a museum. <br /> Chairman O'Bryan sought and received answers regarding the reasons for <br /> closing public access to the beachside portion of Captain Forster's Hammock <br /> Preserve. <br /> Ruth Stanbridge, President of the Indian River Historical Society, announced <br /> the unveiling of a historical marker at the Bridge Tender's site during the <br /> December 7, 2019, "A Day on the Trail" event. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Flescher,seconded by Vice Chairman <br /> Adams,to approve staffs recommendation. The motion carried by the following <br /> vote: <br /> Aye: 5- Chairman Solari,Vice Chairman Adams, Commissioner Flescher, Commissioner <br /> O'Bryan, and Commissioner Zorc <br /> .
