Commissioner Bird still questioned why this hasn't been <br />changed until now. <br />Commissioner Adams stressed that we are seeing some abuses and <br />stated she would support public access. <br />Mr. Zorc noted that the- Commissioners' remarks certainly <br />express the concern of the taxpayers. These organizations may be <br />perfectly legal, but people just want a chance to see their <br />applications. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. The Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />Commissioner Bird expressed his concerns that all of this must <br />meet State criteria, and Commissioner Adams suggested that we have <br />Attorney Vitunac find out more about a 501 exemption. <br />Attorney Vitunac advised that -he would prepare a memo to the <br />Board explaining the criteria requested for non-profit status. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95- 38 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HOARD.OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE FLORIDA <br />LEGISLATURE URGING AN AMENDMENT TO STATE LAW TO <br />ALLOW FOR PUBLIC ACCESS TO NON-PROFIT FILINGS. <br />WHEREAS, State law provides for exemption from from ad valorem taxes for <br />non-profit organizations; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County feels it would be in the public interest to <br />have the section 196.195, F.S. amended to allow inspection and public review <br />of these non-profit filings; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, HE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board strongly urges the Florida <br />Legislature to amend Section 196.195, F.S. to allow inspection and public <br />review of non-profit filings which qualify for exemption from ad valorem <br />taxes. <br />21 <br />March 7, 1995 <br />ma <br />a <br />
