COUNTY ATTORNEY MATTERS <br />1.3..A. 20-.1572 School District Request for Reconsideration of Resolution Calling for Referendum <br />on November 3, 2020 General Election Ballot <br />Recommended Action: The County Attorney's Office recommends that the Board consider the request and <br />decide whether to approve the requested reconsideration. <br />Attachments: Staff Report <br />Signed Ltr for BCC -5.13.2020 <br />Order issued 08-15-19 - Clay County <br />1011.73, Florida Statutes <br />1011.71, Florida Statutes <br />Florida Attorney General 98-29 <br />Dr. David Moore, Superintendent, School District of Indian River County, <br />referenced a letter to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners <br />dated May 13, 2020, requesting that the Board consider placement of an ad valorem <br />tax millage referendum on the August 18, 2020 Primary Election Ballot. He <br />expressed the importance of placing the referendum on the August ballot so that the <br />school district could establish a clear idea of future funding. <br />Commissioner Zorc clarified his vote from the May 12, 2020 meeting and indicated <br />that in past Primary and Presidential elections, voters had a tendency to skip <br />approximately 25% of the local issues on the November ballot, and with that being <br />said he was in favor of placing the referendum on the August ballot. <br />Chairman Adams opened the public comment session. <br />Peggy Jones, 1565 56th Court, supported the School Board's request for a <br />referendum to be placed on the August ballot. <br />Chairman Adams closed the public comment session. <br />Indian River County Florida Page 9 <br />
