1/30/89.1(LEGAL)Reso1(Vk)RB <br />r <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County, at great expense, <br />assumed full responsibility for the management and disposal <br />of the solid waste stream generated in the municipalities <br />and unincorporated areas of the County; and <br />WHEREAS, waste oils are prohibited in the County <br />Landfill and must be collected and recycled; and <br />WHEREAS, the County is also mandated by Florida <br />legislation to reduce the overall solid waste stream to its <br />Class I Landfill by volume reduction and recycling programs; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, public education and awareness programs are <br />essential to the success of any volume reduction and <br />recycling effort; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Department of Environmental <br />Regulation provides grant funds for used -oil recycling <br />projects, initiation of solid waste recycling programs, and <br />public awareness and recycling programs, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the <br />Solid Waste Disposal District is authorized and requested to <br />apply for any grants that are, or may be made, available to <br />Indian River County for solid waste management programs, <br />waste oil recovery and recycling programs, volume reduction <br />programs, and public awareness and educations programs. <br />The foregoing resolution was offered by Commissioner <br />Scurlock and seconded by Commissioner Eggert <br />------------ <br />and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: <br />
