Substance Awareness Center <br />LIFESKILS TRAINING <br />Grant: $100,000 <br />Funds Used: $82,239 <br />Total Students Served: 5,018 <br />Focus Area: Middle and High School Programs that Address Risky Behavior <br />Taxonomy Number: RX 8250 Drug Abuse Education/Prevention <br />Program Description: The Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) program is one of the most widely studied substance <br />use prevention programs in the country and is recognized as an evidence -based program by SAMHSA. Based on <br />theoretical framework, researches developed the LST program to impact drug-related behaviors and promote <br />the development of general personal self-management skills and healthy social skills. The program is designed <br />to enhance overall competences and decrease both the motivation to use drugs and the vulnerability to "at - <br />risk" social influences. <br />GOALS/OUTCOMES REPORT <br />OUTCOME #1: All county middle school students will receive 30 lessons of LST delivered with fidelity to <br />reduce the need for additional behavioral interventions, prevent delinquency, and reduce substance use <br />behavior. <br />Achieved —All 6th 7ch and 8th grade students (4,009) received the full LifeSkills Training Curriculum. <br />OUTCOME #2: Sth grade students at the 9 elementary schools will be provided 8 weeks of the elementary <br />LST curriculum with fidelity to reduce the need for additional behavioral interventions,, prevent <br />delinquency, and reduce substance use behavior. <br />Achieved: 374 5th grade students received full or partial in person curriculum; the remaining 5th grades <br />received the curriculum through SDIRC remote learning Canvas platform. <br />OUTCOME #3: Overall, youth surveyed will show a reduction in reported past 30 day use of substances. <br />Not yet determined —The outcome evaluation report is still being generated.
