There is quite a bit of work to be done on the courthouse <br />and annex before they could be used, but that would give them 2 <br />years to apply for grants, etc. He felt we could all come out <br />winners, especially the taxpayers. <br />Commissioner Eggert thought that leasing creates some problems <br />over the long term. She felt that if the School Board wants the <br />building, it should be their building. <br />Administrator Chandler noted that the proposed expansion and <br />picking up 2,000 square feet from the School Board building would <br />satisfy the needs for future space. He felt the State Attorney's <br />office building should be sold outright to the School Board because <br />it is the most marketable building that the County has in terms of <br />condition, location, etc. <br />Chairman Macht felt we have a consensus going here to <br />authorize staff to negotiate the sale of the State Attorney's <br />Office. <br />Commissioner Bird really felt that the State Attorney's office <br />building is an asset that should be sold outright to the School <br />Board -and then work out a reasonable lease agreement on the other <br />two buildings. <br />Chairman Macht agreed on an outright sale of the State <br />Attorney's office. It is more than a bookkeeping matter -- it is <br />a matter of asset management. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously authorized <br />staff to negotiate with the School Board on the sale <br />of State Attorney's building and lease of old <br />courthouse and annex; and issue an RFP for <br />architect/ engineer re expansion of Administration <br />Building space and determine most practical, <br />economical renovation of A/C system. <br />Mr. Smith stated that the School Board is interested in the <br />transfer of the three properties and getting into the State <br />Attorney's Office as quickly as possible in order to begin adult <br />education classes. <br />Anthony Masi, resident of Vero Beach, suggested that all <br />County space needs be met before considering any non -County uses of <br />the building. <br />67 <br />JUNE 279 1995 <br />
