Adams, Vice Chairman <br />DATE: August 8, 1995 <br />SUBJECT: Transient Pet Vaccine Services <br />We discussed transient pet vaccine services on November 1, 1994, <br />.and some further investigation has been done. I think we should. <br />re -address this issue. <br />Commissioner Adams visited a transient animal vaccination <br />clinic on Sunday and expressed her concern about the quality of <br />care and availability of emergency care. <br />Michael J. Herman, a veterinarian with Westside Animal <br />Hospital, representing the veterinarian community of Indian River <br />County, advised that the State has some minimum requirements which <br />were recommended by a pet vaccine company. These clinics see about <br />120 animals in a 4 hour period, which is an impossible situation <br />allowing 2 to 4 minutes per animal, and there are no provisions for <br />segregating animals. The main concern, however, is the provision <br />of emergency services. The clinic held this weekend at Ryanwood <br />listed 2 emergency clinics, one in Melbourne and one in Jensen <br />Beach. Dr. Herman determined the Melbourne clinic is 34 miles away <br />and takes over 30 minutes to reach. The Jensen Beach clinic is 34 <br />AUGUST 15, 1995 20 <br />
