Division 1—General Requirements, IRC -2030 <br />location of any existing utilities is the CONTRACTOR's responsibility and shall be <br />done before it commences any work in the vicinity. Furthermore, the CONTRACTOR <br />shall be fully responsible for ary and all damages, which might be occasioned by the <br />CONTRACTOR's failure to exactly locate and preserve any and all underground <br />utilities. The OWNER or ENGINEER will assume no liability for any damages <br />sustained or costs incurred because of the CONTRACTOR's operations in the vicinity <br />of existing utilities or structures, nor for temporary bracing and shoring of same. If <br />it is necessary to shore, brace, or swing a utility, contact the utility company or <br />department affected and obtain their permission regarding the method to use for <br />such work. <br />3. Contact the various utility companies which may have buried or aerial utilities <br />within or near the construction area before commencing work. Provide 48 hours <br />minimum notice to all utility companies prior to beginning construction. <br />4. Schedule and execute all work involving existing utilities in order to minimize <br />necessary interruption of services. Whenever such interruption is necessary for <br />completion of the work, notify zhe ENGINEER and the appropriate utility at least 48 <br />hours in advance. Perform all work to repair/restore utility service to the <br />satisfaction of the appropriate utility. Include all costs related to service <br />maintenance, interruption, and restoration in the appropriate line item in the <br />Contract. <br />5. Where it is necessary to temporarily interrupt house or business services, the <br />CONTRACTOR shall notify the owner or occupant, both before the interruption (24- <br />hour minimum), and again immediately before service is resumed. Before <br />disconnecting and pipes or cables, the CONTRACTOR shall obtain permission from <br />their owner, or shall make suitable arrangement for their disconnection by their <br />owner. <br />6. Explore ahead of trenching and excavation work and uncover all obstructing <br />underground structures sufficiently to determine their location, to prevent damage <br />to them and to prevent interruption of the services which such structures provide. <br />If CONTRACTOR damages an underground structure, restore it to original condition <br />at CONTRACTOR's expense. <br />7. Necessary changes in the location of the Work may be made by ENGINEER, to avoid <br />unanticipated underground structures. <br />8. If permanent relocation of an underground structure or other subsurface facility is <br />required and is not otherwise provided for in the Contract Documents, ENGINEER <br />will direct CONTRACTOR in writing to perform the Work, which shall be paid for <br />under the provisions of Article 11 of the General Conditions. <br />B. Surface Structures: <br />1. Surface structures are defined as structures or facilities above the ground surface. <br />Included with such structures are their foundations and any extension below the <br />surface.
