Division 1— General Requirements, IRC -2030 C. Protection of Underground and Surface Structures: 1. Sustain in their places and protect from direct or indirect injury, all underground and surface structures located within or adjacent to the limits of the Work. Such sustaining and supporting shall be done carefully, and as required by the party owning or controlling such structure. Before proceeding with the work of sustaining and supporting such structure, satisfy the ENGINEER that the methods and procedures to be used have been approved by the party owning same. 2. Assume all risks attending the presence or proximity of all underground and surface structures within or adjacent to the limits of the Work. CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for all damage and expense for direct or indirect injury caused by its Work to any structure. CONTRACTOR shall repair immediately all damage caused by his work, to the satisfaction of the OWNER of the damaged structure. D. All other existing surface facilities, including but not limited to, guard rails, posts, guard cables, signs, poles, markers, and curbs which are temporarily removed to facilitate installation of the Work shall be replaced and restored to their original condition at CONTRACTOR'S expense. 1.6 DAMAGE TO EXISTING STRUCTURES AND UTILITIES A. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for and make good all damage to pavement beyond the limits of this Contract, buildings, telephone or other cables, water pipes, sanitary pipes, or other structures which may be encountered, whether or not shown on the Drawings. B. Information shown on the Drawings as to the location of existing utilities has been prepared from the most reliable data available to the Engineer. This information is not guaranteed, however, and it shall be this CONTRACTOR's responsibility to determine the location, character and depth of any existing utilities. He shall assist the utility companies, by every means possible to determine said locations. Extreme caution shall be exercised to eliminate any possibility of any damage to utilities resulting from his activities. 1.7 ADJUSTMENTS OF UTILITY CASTINGS, COVERS AND BOXES A. All existing utility castings, including valve boxes, junction boxes, manholes, pull boxes, inlets and similar structures in the areas of construction that are to remain in service shall be adjusted by the CONTRACTOR to bring them flush with the surface of the finished work. B. The CONTRACTOR shall coordinate the utilities to ensure proper construction sequencing.
