Division 1— General Requirements, IRC -2030 <br />C. Protection of Underground and Surface Structures: <br />1. Sustain in their places and protect from direct or indirect injury, all underground and <br />surface structures located within or adjacent to the limits of the Work. Such <br />sustaining and supporting shall be done carefully, and as required by the party <br />owning or controlling such structure. Before proceeding with the work of sustaining <br />and supporting such structure, satisfy the ENGINEER that the methods and <br />procedures to be used have been approved by the party owning same. <br />2. Assume all risks attending the presence or proximity of all underground and surface <br />structures within or adjacent to the limits of the Work. CONTRACTOR shall be <br />responsible for all damage and expense for direct or indirect injury caused by its <br />Work to any structure. CONTRACTOR shall repair immediately all damage caused <br />by his work, to the satisfaction of the OWNER of the damaged structure. <br />D. All other existing surface facilities, including but not limited to, guard rails, posts, guard <br />cables, signs, poles, markers, and curbs which are temporarily removed to facilitate <br />installation of the Work shall be replaced and restored to their original condition at <br />CONTRACTOR'S expense. <br />1.6 DAMAGE TO EXISTING STRUCTURES AND UTILITIES <br />A. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for and make good all damage to pavement <br />beyond the limits of this Contract, buildings, telephone or other cables, water pipes, <br />sanitary pipes, or other structures which may be encountered, whether or not shown on <br />the Drawings. <br />B. Information shown on the Drawings as to the location of existing utilities has been <br />prepared from the most reliable data available to the Engineer. This information is not <br />guaranteed, however, and it shall be this CONTRACTOR's responsibility to determine the <br />location, character and depth of any existing utilities. He shall assist the utility companies, <br />by every means possible to determine said locations. Extreme caution shall be exercised <br />to eliminate any possibility of any damage to utilities resulting from his activities. <br />1.7 ADJUSTMENTS OF UTILITY CASTINGS, COVERS AND BOXES <br />A. All existing utility castings, including valve boxes, junction boxes, manholes, pull boxes, <br />inlets and similar structures in the areas of construction that are to remain in service shall <br />be adjusted by the CONTRACTOR to bring them flush with the surface of the finished <br />work. <br />B. The CONTRACTOR shall coordinate the utilities to ensure proper construction <br />sequencing.
