9 . B . 1 . PUBLIC DISCUSSION ITEM - REQUEST BY MR AND MRS
ANTHONY ESPOSITO TO SPEAK REGARDING " LIFE AND SAFETYISSUES /PRIVACY GATE - RIVERPOINT91
The Board reviewed the information provided in the backup .
Tony Esposito , 624 23 d
Street SE , presented on the overhead various documents (a
copy of which can be found with the backup in the Office of the Clerk to the Board) .His
issue concerned the gate installed next to his property at the entrance to Riverpoint . He
stated the opening of the gate does not allow for proper ingress/egress by oversize vehicles ,
including large trucks , school busses , and fire equipment .He asserted that the gate was
improperly placed , swings onto his property, does not meet County traffic engineering
requirements , and blocks a fire hydrant .
Dora Esposito , 624 23 `d
Street SE , pointed out that garbage trucks and other large
vehicles create traffic hazards and use the Esposito ' s driveway for a turnaround . She had
heard conflicting stories as to whether the gate was in the original plans or not . She believed
this gate has caused a fire hazard for three years , yet her home was cited by the County .
Director Keating advised that the County changed gate regulations because of what
occurred in this unique situation . He displayed a map on the overhead and explained the
evolution of this problem and described how this gate was situated . If a request for this type
of gate were to come in today, it would not be approved . The plan is for Riverpoint to move
the gate and add fire hydrants .Other proposals are now in for administrative approval . A
different type of gate has been suggested by staff, but Riverpoint ' s representative has not
been receptive due to cost.
Environmental & Code Enforcement Chief Roland DeBlois pointed out that due to
an oversight Mr .Esposito ' s fence is located on the road right- of-way .The Code
Enforcement Board said it could stay unless the County takes the initiative to remove it .
Mrs . Esposito claimed that authorities were made aware of this lack of turnaround
October 16 , 2001
132
i6 1 i F, G 9 0 1
