t <br />t. <br />ARTICLE 1I. BUILDING CODE. -- <br />Section 1.. ADOPTION 017, SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING <br />CODE. Subject to the foregoing limitations and exceptions and sub- <br />ject to the following modifications, Indian River County hereby adopts <br />by reference, as a building code for the said county, the Southern <br />Standard Building Code, 1965 Edition, as prepared by the Southern <br />Building Code Congress, three copies of which are filed in the office <br />of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Indian River. County. <br />Section 2. MODIFICATIONS OF SOUTHERN STANDARD <br />BUILDING CODE. "rhe following provisions of said Southern Standard <br />Building Code are hereby modified as follows: <br />(1) BUILDING OFFICIAL. Section 102. 1(b) is aniended to read: <br />"The. County Building Official (referred to herein as the <br />Building Official) shall have had at least ten (10) years' <br />experience as an architect, engineer, building inspector, <br />building contractor or superintendent of building construe - <br />tion for five (5) years of which tic small have been in <br />responsible charge of work. tin: may be appointed by the <br />Hoard of County Coninilssioners of Indian River County, <br />1=lorida (referred to herein as the Chief Appointing <br />Authority) or he may be constituted County Building Offi- <br />cial by any contractual agreement or resolution of the <br />C'.hief Appointing Authority constituting the: Building Offt- <br />cial of a municipality Clio Building Official of the county. <br />If appointed, his c nnpI(,)yrnont shall continue during good <br />behavior and satisfactory service; and lie shall not be <br />],(,moved except for cats to after hearing on specific <br />charges before the Chief Appointing Authority." <br />(2) INSPI"CTORS. Section 102.2 is amended to reads <br />"With Clic approval of the Chief Appointing, Authority, a <br />building official appointed by the Chief Appointing Author- <br />ity may appoint such number of officers, inspectors, <br />assistants and rather employees as shall be authorized <br />from time to time. No person shall be appointed as <br />inspector of construction who has not had at least flve (5) <br />years' experience as a building inspector, builder, <br />engineer, architect or as a superintendent, foreman or <br />competent mechanic in charge of construction. " <br />(3) UNSAFE BUILDINGS. Section 103.4(a)(3) is amended to <br />read: <br />"The owner, agent or person in control shall have the <br />right to appeal from the decision of Clio Building Official, <br />as provided hereinafter, and to appear before the Indian <br />3 <br />
