Zito, Assistant County Administrator <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Members of the Board of County Commissioners <br />FROM: Kathleen Keenan <br />Legislative Affairs and Communications Manager <br />DATE: September 15, 2021 <br />SUBJECT: Indian River County, St. Lucie County and Martin County Joint Board <br />Meeting <br />BACKGROUND <br />In preparation for the 2022 Florida legislative session, Martin County and St. Lucie County have reached <br />out to Indian River County to see if the Board would be interested in attending a joint board meeting to <br />discuss legislative priorities. The meeting is tentatively set for Tuesday, October 26th from 9:00 am to <br />12:00 pm at the Indian River State College Main Campus, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Brown Center for <br />Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Room Y-102. <br />In accordance with section 125.001, Florida Statutes, the Board is permitted to participate in a joint meeting <br />with the governing bodies of one or more adjacent counties or municipalities to discuss matters regarding <br />land development, economic development, or any other matters of mutual interest. To do so, all three <br />referenced boards are required to: (1) adopt a resolution authorizing the participation in the joint meeting; <br />(2) publicly notice the meeting within its jurisdiction; (3) and hold the meeting in an appropriate public <br />place. Pursuant to section 125.001(2)(b), Florida Statutes, no official vote can be taken at the meeting. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners adopt the resolution to <br />hold a joint meeting with the Board of County Commissioners for St. Lucie County and the Board of County <br />Commissioners for Martin County to discuss joint legislative priorities in anticipation of the State of <br />Florida's 2022 legislative session. <br />ATTACHMENT <br />Proposed Resolution <br />168 <br />0 <br />
