New Construction Technologies <br />Policy 1.8 of the Housing Element reads as follows: <br />Policy 1.8: The county shall expedite permits for housing projects utilizing new <br />construction technologies, including green building programs and Energy STAR® <br />Program. <br />New construction technologies (such as modular homes, factory made tiny homes, etc.) and <br />new green building programs may be utilized for the provision of affordable housing. In some <br />cases, new construction technologies can expedite the construction of new affordable homes <br />and be more cost effective. <br />As part of the January 22, 2020 AHAC recommendations approved by the BCC, is a <br />recommendation to develop tiny and modular home information packets. Those packets once <br />developed will be made available to homeowners and builders to inform them of the <br />possibilities, key code allowances and requirements, and review processes related to them. <br />The informational packets should serve to promote more affordable housing by simply <br />presenting the option and helping to facilitate their expedited development through <br />prompt/informative information. <br />Benefits: <br />Decreases housing cost <br />- Expedites housing production <br />Issues: <br />- None <br />Conclusion: <br />This is an effective way of reducing housing cost. Currently, the county allows new <br />construction technologies, including green building programs, and expedites permits for <br />affordable housing projects.
