Box PAGF. :07 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, tropical disturbances such as tropical depressions, <br />tropical storms and hurricanes pose a threat to east coast <br />residents every year between June 1 and November 30, and <br />WHEREAS, landfall of these disturbances have the potential to <br />cause loss of property and life because of strong. winds and <br />flooding and, <br />WHEREAS, hurricane planning is an essential family function <br />for all residents who live along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County continues to strive to adequately <br />educate and prepare residents about planning, response and recovery <br />from all types of tropical activity through seminars, printed <br />material, media interviews, television programs and the newly <br />produced Indian River County Department of Emergency services, <br />"Guide To Hurricane Preparedness" which will be available, free of <br />charge, in both libraries and most video stores on May 18, 1996; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that May 18 to 25, <br />1996, has been designated as <br />HURRICANE AWARENESS WEER <br />in Indian River County, and the Board encourages all residents, <br />businesses, governmental agencies and community based organizations <br />to spread the hurricane preparedness message throughout our <br />community and the Board further asks that the public not become <br />complacent with the lack of damage from Hurricane Erin and make a <br />family plan should a hurricane threaten Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 14 day of May, 1996 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />Indian River County, Florida <br />Fran B. Adams, Chairman <br />Nathan McCollum thanked the Board for recognizing Hurricane <br />Awareness Week. He advised that on May 18 and May 19 on Channel 13 <br />(TCI) and Channel 35 (Falcon) the video mentioned in the <br />proclamation will be shown. He explained that the video was made <br />with the cooperation of Indian River County School Board, <br />especially Craig Jerome. If produced professionally, the video <br />could have cost from $5-10,000; however, it was produced for.only <br />$100. He then showed a 4 -minute excerpt from the video and <br />encouraged the viewing public to take advantage of seeing the <br />entire video which will be loaned free from local video stores and <br />the libraries. <br />2 <br />May 14, 1996 <br />_I <br />
