Proclamation <br />HONORING PAUL FAFEITA ON LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />-Whereas, after graduating from Vero Beach High School in 1968, Paul Fafeita served our <br />Country in the United States Marine Corps during two tours in Vietnam; and <br />-Whereas, Paul assisted the residents of Indian River County over a lengthy career with the <br />Sheriff's office, retiring as a Captain after more than 30 years; and <br />-Whereas, Paul continued his involvement as the Local Lodge 69 President, State Officer of the <br />Fraternal Order of Police, and co-founder of Fight Drug Abuse of Indian River County; and <br />-Whereas, Paul has been a driving force in local coastal and clean water conservation efforts as <br />President and State Officer of the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association, and <br />as founding President of the Clean Water Coalition of Indian River County; and <br />^WGiereas, Paul has given his all to the mission of cleaning up our lagoon and stemming the flow <br />of pollutants that impair the estuary; and <br />Whereas, Paul has provided input and maintained oversight on important water and safety <br />initiatives pertaining to our lagoon, including leading the ban on application of potentially harmful biosolids <br />and encouraging a stop to the use of glyphosate for weed control; and <br />-Whereas, Paul's waterborne tours aboard his pontoon boat have educated countless people on <br />the importance of restoring sea grass cover while generating local, national, and international stories on <br />our diverse estuary. <br />Now, therefore, be itproclaimedby the Boardof County Commissioners ofln&an <br />River County, Florida, that the Board applauds the contributions Captain Paul Fafeita has made to <br />the citizenry of Indian River County and wishes him well in his future endeavors. <br />Adopted this 28th day of March, 2023.
