ProcCamati"M <br />Recognizing Indian River County <br />as a MOONSHOT COMMUNITY FOR LITERACY <br />Whereas, children are our most precious resources, and the first years of a child's life, where <br />the most rapid brain development occurs, lay the foundation for all future learning; and <br />Whereas, early literacy is the gateway to all learning; from birth to third grade we learn to read <br />so that we can then, read to learn; and <br />Whereas, literacy is the key to individual success and our community's economic prosperity, <br />with a $13 to $1 return on investment; and <br />-Whereas, as their child's first and most important teacher, families must have support, knowing <br />that building a reading brain begins at birth; and <br />Whereas, statistics show that children reading on level by the end of third grade have a three <br />in four chance of success; and <br />Whereas, the Campaign for Grade -level Reading has declared our Indian River County <br />Moonshot Community Action Network as a national Pacesetter, honoring us for the community - <br />inspired literacy movement; and <br />Whereas, the Board of County Commission hereby agrees to join the Moonshot Moment <br />Journey "team of teams", working together in 2023 to make Indian River County a leading literacy <br />capital of the nation. <br />Naw, 71herefore, be it Proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida, that Indian River County is recognized as a Moonshot <br />Community for Literacy, taking a stand for our youngest citizens, improving early literacy, and giving <br />every child the opportunity to be a literate, productive, and compassionate citizen who will improve <br />our world. <br />Adopted this 28th day of March, 2023.
