Gifford Youth Achievement Center, Inc. <br />After School Education Program (ASEP) <br />Grant amount: $60,680 <br />Funds used: $60,680 <br />Total children served: 259 <br />Cost per child: $3,290.53 <br />Focus Area: Quality Remediation and Enrichment Program <br />Program Description: The After School Education Program (ASEP) is an afterschool program for <br />children in grades K-12. This program offers educational assistance through tutoring, <br />homework assistance, personal growth and development, and cultural, social, and recreational <br />activities. <br />Collaboration: School District of Indian River County, Indian River State College, Moonshot <br />Community Action Network, Dodgertown Community School, and the Indian River County <br />Library System. <br />1. Maintain at 93% the number of students in grades K — 5 who complete their <br />homework by the end of the day, as reported by teachers completing the Homework <br />Completion Log. The primary focus of the afterschool program is completing homework before <br />the students leave and assisting students with their academic assignments. Teachers and <br />volunteers provide the assistance needed to ensure students receive the support to achieve <br />academically. Report cards are reviewed, and teacher comments are monitored to assist <br />students better. <br />Results: The 2021-22 school year ended on 5/28/2022. On average, 94% percent of students <br />with homework completed their assignments before leaving. Throughout this school year, <br />students had less homework than in the prior school years. Teachers provided students <br />without homework with grade -appropriate work assignments and/or students were required to <br />read for an extended period. <br />2. To increase to 93%, the number of enrolled students in grades 3rd —12th that receive a <br />grade of "C" or lower in Reading, English, and/or Math will improve that grade by the end of <br />the 2021-22 school year as reported by FOCUS (SDIRC) grades. <br />Results: 91% of students who received a grade of "C" or lower in Reading, English and/or Math <br />improved their grade in that subject during the school year. Teachers reviewed student <br />progress reports and report cards throughout the year. The Sonday Reading Program assisted <br />elementary students reading below grade level; tutors provided one-on-one assistance for <br />students struggling with Math in the middle and high school grades. <br />145 <br />
