Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition <br />Community Doula <br />Grant amount: $20,000 <br />Funds used: $20,000 (Q1 = $4,890.98 + Q2 = $5,036.34 + Q3 = $5,036.34 + Q4 = $5,036.34) <br />Total families served: 223 (Q1 = 30 + Q2 = 53 + Q3 = 42 + Q4 = 98 clients) <br />Cost per client: Per 10/01/2021- 9/30/2022 CSAC funds used per client for Q4: $50.87. Cost per <br />client for cumulative fiscal year: $89.69. <br />Focus Area: Building Parent Capacity <br />Program Description: The Healthy Start Community Doula program will support, educate, and <br />empower pregnant women to take control of their health. The program will achieve this by <br />providing educational support prenatally and by providing continuous labor support to the <br />laboring woman at the hospital. The services will continue postnatally. Specialized services are <br />provided by a trained Doula. The program aims to improve birth outcomes and health literacy <br />for residents of Indian River County. <br />Collaboration: Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Partners in Women's Health, Florida <br />Woman Care, Indian River County Health Department, Indian River County Healthy Start <br />Coalition, Healthy Families Indian River County, Parents as Teachers, Women's Care Center, and <br />Moonshot Moment— Kindergarten Readiness Collaborative. <br />Outcome # 1: The rate of cesarean delivery will decrease to 22% among prenatal clients <br />receiving Doula services. <br />Goal Results: 91% Overall <br />100% / 98 out of 98 program participants increased knowledge about pain management <br />during labor, coping techniques during labor, comfort measures, procedures and <br />terminology during labor, and pain medication used during labor. (Out of the 42 program <br />participants, 21 gave birth during this time period.) <br />81% / 79 out of 98 program participants had a vaginal birth. 18%/ 18 out of 98 <br />participants had cesarean sections. <br />Outcome # 2: Doula program participants will have a higher breastfeeding initiation rate as <br />compared to the state averages for the same period. <br />Goal Results: 92.5% Overall <br />• 94% / 92 out of 98 program participants -initiated breastfeeding at birth. <br />a 91% / 81 out of 89 program participants continued breastfeeding postpartum. <br />159 <br />
