E.7 <br />40 <br />c. Expansion Joints: <br />(1) Provide premol,ded joint filler for <br />expansion joints abutting concrete <br />curbs, catchbasin, manholea, inlets, <br />structures, walks, and other fixed <br />objects, unless otherwise indicated. <br />(2) Locate expansion joints at 30 feet <br />O.C. for concrete walks, unless <br />otherwise indicated. <br />(3) Extend joint fillers full width and <br />depth of joint, and not less than <br />one-half inch below finished surface <br />where joint sealer is indicated. If <br />no joint sealer, place top of joint <br />filler flush with finished concrete <br />surface. <br />(4) Furnish joint fillers in one-piece <br />lengths for the full width being <br />placed, wherever possible. Where <br />more than one length is required, <br />lace or clip joint filler sections <br />together. Pieces shorter than four <br />inches shall not be used unless <br />specifically shown as such. <br />(*a) Protect the top edge of the joint <br />filler during concrete placement <br />with a metal cap or other temporary <br />material. Remove protection after <br />concrete has been placed on !both <br />sides of joint. <br />(6) Fillers and Sealants: Comply with <br />the requirements of these <br />specifications for preparation of <br />joints, materials installations and <br />performance, and as herein <br />specified. <br />C. CONCRETE FINISHING <br />1. After striking -off and consolidating <br />concrete, smooth the surface by screening <br />and floating. Use hand methods only <br />where mechanical floating is not <br />possible. Adjust the floating to compact <br />the surface and produce a uniform <br />texture. <br />O2576-9 <br />
