BOOK 98 NIH 423 <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing and asked if anyone <br />wished to be heard in this matter. There being none, she closed <br />the public hearing. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Macht, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously granted <br />special exception use approval for the requested <br />tower with the condition that, prior to site plan <br />release, the applicant, Indian River County <br />Emergency Services, document to the County <br />Attorney's satisfaction that no residences will be <br />allowed within the tower's fall radius, as <br />recommended by staff. <br />BUDGET AMENDMENT 022 - MODIFICATION OF KITCHEN <br />EQUIPMENT - OSLO MIDDLE SCHOOL/SHELTER - EMERGENCY <br />MANAGEMENT PREPAREDNESS AND ASSISTANCE GRANT FUNDS <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of June 13, 1996: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Doug Wright, Director `�j <br />Department of Emergency Services <br />FROM: John King, Emergency Management Coordinator `_I <br />Division of Emergency Management <br />DATE: June 13, 1996 <br />SUBJECT: Modification of Kitchen Equipment at Oslo Middle School/Shelter Utilizing Funds <br />from the Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Grant (EMPA) <br />Budget Amendment 022 <br />It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein be given formal consideration <br />by the Board of County Commissioners at the next scheduled meeting. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />Indian River. County presently has a shortage of public shelter spaces for evacuees during a local <br />state of emergency. The Department of Emergency Services is aggressively reviewing <br />governmental facilities that can be retrofitted at a reasonable cost to reduce the shelter deficit. <br />In a recent hurricane planning meeting with staff from the IRC School District and the American <br />Red.Cross, we requested that the new Oslo Middle School be added to the 1996 Hurricane Shelter <br />list. The Oslo School remained under construction last summer, and at the request of the School <br />District, was not included in last year's list of available shelters. <br />24 <br />June 25, 1996 <br />
