If cracks or checks appear in the base which would impair the structural integrity of the base lin the opinion of the Engineer, the Contractor shall 1 remove the cracks or checks by rescarifying, reshaping, refilling with coquina shell where necessary, and recompacting at no cost to the Owner. E. The finished coquina shell base shall be checked for thickness at intervals of F not more than 300 feet. Any areas which are less than 5 1/2 inches in thickness shall be corrected by scarifying and adding rock. The scarifying shall extend for 50 feet either side of the deficient area. Areas which are less than 1/2 inch deficient in thickness shall be corrected if the Engineer determines that the area is extensive or may adversely affect the quality of the finished work. 6. Specifications. 7. TESTING A. The maximum density and optimum moisture shall be determined in accordance with the Modified Proctor Test procedures of ASTM -D1557 or AASHTO- f 180 (Method D). The percentage compaction and in-place density shall be determined according to procedures of ASTM -D2167 "Test for Density of Soil In -Place by the Rubber Balloon Method" or the nuclear method ASTM- D2922.
