40 <br />• <br />r^ <br />SECTION 42402 <br />DRAINAUESTRUCTURES <br />1. GENERAL <br />A. Under this item, the Contractor shall build anchor install new catch basins, <br />manholes, dropholes, drop inlets, junction boxes, leaching basins and (lie like <br />of the types and at the locations shown on the Drawings. <br />2. MATERIALS <br />A. The materials used in the construction of these structures shall comply with <br />Section 345 "Portland Cement Concrete" (Type 11), Section 415 "Reinforcing <br />Steel" (Grade 40), and Section 425-3 "Materials" of the FDOT Specifications. <br />B. Sand -cement riprap shall conform to Section 405 of the these Specifications, <br />3, CONSTRUCTION DETAILS <br />A. Construction of the structures shall conform to the details as shown on (lee <br />Drawings and, unless otherwise specified, shall conform with Section 425 <br />"Intel, Manholes, and Junction Boxes" of the FDOT Specifications. Required <br />minimum compaction shall be 95 percent of maximum density (AASHTO T- <br />180) and l(K) percent of maximum density (AASHTO T-180) in areas of <br />paving or curbing. <br />B, The Contractor shall submit shop drawings for review and approval on all <br />Precast structures prior to granting fabrication approval, <br />4. GRATES, FRAMES, AND COVERS <br />A. Grate, fraine and cover castings shall be of unifonn quality and free from <br />blowholes, porosity, hard spots, shrinkage, cracks or other injurious defects. <br />They shall be smooth and well cicancd by shot blasting and, unless otherwise <br />specified, shall be covered with a smooth coating of coal tar ,pitch varnish of a <br />type which will be tough, tenacious, and resilient throughout the range of <br />expected service temperatures. <br />B. Material used in the manufacture of [ice castings shail conform to ASTM <br />Specifications A-48 Class 30 Iran or to United States Government <br />Specifications QQI-652, (latest revision) for gray iron castings. <br />C. All castings shall be manufactured- true to pattern and with a close fit of <br />component Voris. Frames and covers in roadway and traffic areas shall lie of <br />non -rocking design or shall have machined hearing surfaces so that fining <br />parts will not rattle or rock under traffic. <br />D. All grates, frames and covers located within road right -of- way or traffic areas <br />shall be capable 'of withstanding the AAS11TO 11-20 vertical, dynatnic <br />wheel load. <br />f*11a,t <br />02402 A <br />
