Titkanich, County Administrator <br />Michael Zito, Deputy County Administrator <br />Cindy Emerson, Community Services Director <br />From: Amie Rutherford, Human Services Manager <br />Subject: Revision to Administrative Policy 908.1, Indian River County <br />Disposal of Indigent Bodies (Burial and Cremation) <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On November 22, 2011, the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners adopted <br />Administrative Policy 908.1, Indian River County Disposal of Indigent Bodies (Burial and <br />Cremation) to adhere to the requirements of Chapter 406 of the Florida Statute and provide <br />dignified burial or cremation for persons who are indigent or unclaimed. <br />On June 6, 2023, the BOCC approved an amendment to the policy which increased the <br />reimbursement cost to funeral homes who provide cremation services under this policy. <br />Upon conducting a thorough review of the current policy, it has become evident that additional <br />revisions are needed to accurately reflect recent organizational changes and provide procedural <br />clarity to all stakeholders following the revisions made on June 6, 2023. <br />The updated policy is attached. <br />Urnvnnvr_. <br />There are no changes to the approved funding for this service as listed below. <br />This service is funded in the FY23/24 budget through the Human Services Division. Funding is <br />provided through account 00121164-033171 and is currently budgeted at $35,000.
