"Sonny" Dean, Director <br />fi <br />Department of General Services <br />SUBJECT: Old Douglas School - Recreation Use <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Recreation Department through Commissioner Fran Adams requested some repairsfunprovements <br />to the subject location which would enable them to use that facility for their programs. <br />Staff met with Pat Callahan on site to determine exactly what would be required to accomplish the intended <br />recreational use of the facility. Along with requested improvements/repairs, certain items will have to be <br />addressed in order to meet ADA requirements. <br />1. Install ceiling fans in auditorium and stage area <br />2. Refinish stage floor and paint auditorium <br />3. Install ADA ramp to front door and install ADA hardware <br />4. Bathroom renovations to ADA specifications <br />5. Install exit lighting <br />6. Block up and finish non -used openings (3) <br />7. Insulate air pockets at ceiling NE comer of auditorium <br />S. Repair/replace windows <br />9. Install emergency lighting (4) <br />10. Re -roof rear of kitchen <br />TOTAL <br />$1,333.00 <br />500.00 <br />500.00 <br />600.00 <br />300.00 <br />320.00 <br />60.00 <br />2,500.00 <br />176.00 <br />3.000.00 <br />$9,289.00 <br />This is a rough estimate of the construction cost but does not include permits that will be required to <br />perform this work. <br />If the Board approves the project, staff would recommend $10,000 be appropriated since this expenditure <br />was not anticipated during the budget process. <br />Chairman Adams advised that the suggestion came from her to <br />Pat Callahan to have classes at the old Douglas School. <br />Commissioner Bird requested that the decision be deferred one <br />week so that it can be presented to the Parks and Recreation <br />Committee which will meet on Thursday. <br />Chairman Adams agreed and the item was deferred for one week. <br />32 <br />August 6, 1996 <br />
