C-1 <br />i <br />MCM1 2D - URASSIN0 BY DD -Q U <br />1. SCOPE <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, equipment and <br />Supervision required to prepare the soil, fine grade the area and establish a <br />healthy stand of grass by sodding of the areas so designated on the <br />drawings and as specified herein. <br />2. GENERAL <br />A. PRS'( <br />1) The area to be sodded shall be clear of old sod and weeds. The <br />area shall be fine graded and the surface loosened, by <br />f scarifying, if necessary, if the soil is dry it shall be <br />moistened to provide an optimum growing condition.. <br />B. EQU11=r <br />1} Fertilizer shall be uniformly spread over the area to be sodded at <br />the rate of 400 to 500 pounds per acre. The fertilizer shall have a <br />chemical designation of 12-8-8. Soil which has a PH of 5.0 or <br />lower shall, if directed by the Engineer, have an application of <br />t dolomite time stone, but the amount of dolomite applied shall not <br />raise the PH above 6.0. <br />C. <br />1} The sod shall be St. Augustine unless otherwise noted or directed <br />by the Engineer. The sod shall be of a tough texture with a good <br />1 mat of roots. It shall be free of weeds and other objectionable <br />grasses. Approximately three days prior to cutting the sod, it <br />shall be closely snowed and raised to remove excess growth and <br />debris. The sod shall be cut with sufficient thickness to retain the <br />root system intact. There shall be a minimum of delay between <br />the cutting of the sod and the laying so that it is live, fresh and <br />uninjured when laid. <br />D. LAYING <br />1} No sod shall be laid until the Engineer has approved the condition <br />of the prepared area. The sod shall be placed with the edges in <br />close contact. Where the sod is laid on a slope the pieces of sod <br />shall be laid with staggered joints to minimize erosion along <br />the joints and where the sod is laid in drainage swales and ditches <br />1 the joints shall be staggered in the line of flow for the same reason. <br />After the sod is laid it shall be brought into close contact with the <br />soil by tamping, light rolling or other acceptable means. Where the <br />sod may slide due to the steep slope it shall be pegged to firm soil <br />with wood pegs. <br />E. WATE9 <br />1} The sod shall be kept watered on an as need basis for the duration <br />of the contract period and in no case for less than two weeks. <br />When the grass is watered it should be at the rate of one inch or <br />620 gallons per 1000 square feet per application. <br />zo-1 <br />
