Under this item, the Contractor shall build and/or install new catch <br />basins, manholes, dropholes, drop inlets, junction boxes, leaching basins <br />and the like of the types and at the locations shown on the Drawings. <br />MATERIALS <br />A. The materials used in the construction of these structures shall comply <br />with Section 345 "Portland Cement Concrete" (Type II), Section 415 <br />"Reinforcing Steel" (Grade 40), and Section 425-3 "Materials" of the FDOT <br />Specifications. <br />B. Sand -cement riprap shall conform to Section 405 of the these <br />Specifications. <br />CONSTRUCTION DETAILS <br />A. Construction of the structures shall conform to the details as shown on <br />the Drawings and, unless otherwise specified,shall conform with <br />Section 425 "Inlet, Manholes, and Junction Boxes" of the FDOT <br />Specifications. Required minimum compaction shall be 95 percent of <br />maximum density (AASHTO T- 180) and 100 percent of maximum <br />density (AASHTO T-180) in areas of paving orcurbing. <br />B. The Contractor shall submit shop drawings for review and approval on <br />all precast structures prior to granting fabrication approval. <br />4. GRATES, FRAMES, AND COVERS <br />A. Grate, frame and cover castings shall be of uniform quality and free <br />from blowholes, porosity, hard spots, shrinkage, cracks or other <br />injurious defects. They shall be smooth and well cleaned by shot blasting <br />and, unless otherwise specified, shall be covered with a smooth coating of <br />coal tar pitch varnish of a type which will be tough, tenacious, and <br />resilient throughout the range of expected service temperatures. <br />B . Material used in the manufacture of the castings shall conform to <br />ASTM Specifications A-48 Class 30 Iron or to United States <br />Government Specifications QQI-652, (latest revision) for gray iron <br />castings. <br />C. All castings shall be manufactured true to pattern and with a close fit <br />of component parts. Frames and covers in roadway and traffic areas shall <br />be of non -rocking design or shall have machined bearing surfaces so <br />that fitting pans will not rattle or rock under traffic. <br />D. All grates, frames and covers located within road right -of- way or traffic <br />areas shall be capable of withstanding the AASHTO H-20 vertical, <br />dynamic wheel load. <br />wP•1 <br />L <br />L, <br />
