C-1 <br />r <br />k <br />6. ADMIXTURES <br />A. Admixtures other than for air entrainment shall not be used without <br />the specific written approval of the Engineer. <br />7. FORMS <br />A. Forms shall be built to provide a neat and workmanlike finished job. <br />The forms shall be mortar -tight and of sufficient strength material to <br />prevent any bulging or sagging from true line and grade and to <br />withstand vibrating. Any form ties shall be removed to a depth of at <br />least 1 112 inches, the holes reamed out large enough to be adequately <br />patched and the note filled with sand cement mortar. <br />S. PLACEMENT AND INSPEC I[ON <br />9 <br />A. The Contractor shall give the Engineer sufficient advance notice of his <br />intent to pour concrete to permit inspection of the farms, placement of <br />reinforcing steel, and equipment for mixing, transporting and placing of <br />the concrete. No concrete will be placed prior to completion of the form <br />work and placing of the reinforcing to the Engineer's satisfaction. No <br />concrete shall be placed unless an adequate vibrator and adequate <br />provisions for curing are on hand. Concrete test cylinders will be <br />made by the Engineer's representative at random and at any time <br />there is doubt about the quality of the concrete. Failure of the concrete <br />to come up to design strength will be cause for rejection and replacement <br />of the structure. <br />B. Every effort shall be made to obtain a water tight and durable concrete <br />free from voids, rock pockets and the like. Shouid defects occur, they will <br />be called to the Engineer's attention and repaired in accordance with his <br />directive or, if extensive replaced. <br />C. Concrete finish on exposed surfaces shall be as designated by the <br />Engineer. <br />REINFORCING <br />A. All reinforcing steel shall be fabricated from new billet steel and shall <br />unless otherwise noted conform to ASTM designation A615, Grade 40. <br />All bars shall be securely tied in place with soft iron wire, 16 gage or <br />heavier. Unless otherwise noted all bars shall have 2 inches of concrete <br />cover. All bends shall be in accordance with the A.C.1. Building <br />Code. <br />10. CURING <br />A. General: The concrete shall be continuously cured for a period of at <br />least 7 days. Curing shall be commenced after finishing has been <br />completed and as soon as the concrete has hardened sufficiently to <br />permit application of the curing material without marring the surface. <br />Any curing material removed or damaged during the 7 day period shall be <br />replaced immediately.After forms are removed, tate surfaces exposed <br />1 <br />3A-2 <br />
