40 <br />40 <br />L <br />a <br />SECTION 213 - EXCAVATION <br />E SCOPE <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish all necessary labor, equipment, and <br />transportation to excavate and haul material in accordance with the Plans <br />and Specifications. <br />2. GENERAL <br />A. The Contractor shall excavate for the roadways, structures, retention <br />areas, swales, etc., as shown on the Drawings and specified herein, and <br />shall dispose of all materials excavated at a site designated or approved by <br />the Owner. <br />3. DISPOSAL <br />A. In all areas where excavation is to be done, all earth, rock. muck and other <br />materials shall be removed and separates[ as to suitable and unsuitable <br />material for backfill as defined herein. <br />B. The Contractor may, for his own convenience, elect to temporarily <br />stockpile any portion of the excavated material at a job site location <br />designated by the Owner, for later use or disposal. The stockpiled <br />material shall be piled in an orderly manner so its not to endanger the <br />work or obstruct roadways or drainage within the designated job site <br />location. All excavated unsuitable material shall be disposed of at a <br />location designated or approved by the Owner. All excavated suitable <br />material that is not reused by the Contractor within [lie job site shall <br />become the property of the Owner and shall be disposed of as directed by <br />the Owner. <br />4. SHEETING AND BRACING <br />A. Where excavations may endanger workmen, existing structtares, utilities <br />or other facilities, it shall be the Contractor's responsibility to immediately <br />install and maintain adequate sheeting and bracing, per OSHA <br />specifications in order to protect said facility. No work shall proceed in <br />such excavations until the sheeting, and bracing has been properly and <br />completely installed. The sheeting thus installed %hall be removed as the <br />work progresses or, at the discretion of the Ett}tinee-. be cut off below <br />finished grade said left in phice. Sheeting and bracinc, may lie either steel <br />or wood at the option of the Contractor. <br />B. Sheeting and bracing shall be installed in a manner that will allow for <br />removal without injuring or endangering workmen, the work. adjacent <br />structures, and the like. Voids caused by withdrawal of sheeting shad] be <br />promptly and completely Filled with sand and compavied it) a degree <br />equal to the surrounding soil. <br />5. DEWATE,RINU <br />A. All waterencountercd during excavation shall be prompily and ciatnpletcly <br />removed to a depth below the exposed excavation surface Sufficient to <br />aa. 1 <br />
